Community Reflections

Upper Rocky Creek Slide Repair

“Two thousand five hundred years ago, Shakyamuni Buddha proclaimed that the next Buddha will be named Maitreya, the ‘Buddha of Love.’ I think Maitreya Buddha may be a COMMUNITY and not just an individual. A good community is needed to help us resist the unwholesome ways of our time. Mindful living protects us and helps us go in the direction of peace. With the support of friends in the practice, peace has a chance.” –Thich Nhat Hanh

The Upper Rocky Creek community after six years of working together has allocated the funds for the slide repair project. We have been reflecting a lot on this resilient & determined community which the Hermitage is grateful to be a part of. This community held the vision that the road would get fixed despite many financial and logistical obstacles.

Since the project has started neighbors have been extending helping hands in countless ways such as offering rides, transporting supplies and caring for each other’s animals.

The project timeline of the repair is anticipated to be completed late summer.
